One of our favorite
Peace Book stories…
Sally, who is retired and lives in a small town in Vermont,
calls us up at least once a month and sometimes more to order
books. Sally sends these books to anyone she thinks of, or
addresses she comes across. So far, she has sent them to Colin
Powell, Kofi Anan, her Vermont state Representative and Senators,
and to a list of women’s organizations she saw HOPE
magazine.
My favorite chain of events is that Sally sent a copy of
The Peace Book to her cousin in Indianapolis, Indiana,
who in turn ordered 5 books and gave one to the minister of
her church. He had just finished writing his Palm Sunday sermon
on “Blessed are the Peacemakers”, when he received
his copy of The Peace Book. Well, Reverend Millard
then ordered 3 boxes of books to give to members of his congregation.
After a day or two the thought occurred to him that since
he has a congregation of 2,000 he could at least give everyone
in his congregation the insert from The Peace Book
(which invites people to join The Great Peace Giveaway) at
his Palm Sunday sermon. The following Monday morning orders
poured in from Indianapolis and the surrounding area.
